Volunteer Roles

Turnpike Basketball Club could not run as smoothly without the efforts of our volunteers. We're always on the lookout for people who are willing to lend a hand!

Want to help? Here are the ways you can get involved with your player’s team or with the club.

Team Roles

These responsibilities are best for volunteers who wish to help their favorite player's team directly during games and practices.

NOTE: During every league game, different individuals are required to fill each of the roles listed below.

Coach (open)

Head Coaches run team's games and practices, develops players, and ensures a safe environment for players.
Assistant Coaches are not required, but are strongly recommended. Assistants help the Head Coach during team activities, and fill in if the head coach cannot be present.
During a game, an assistant can instead serve as either a Scorer's Table Volunteer or a VBD, but not both.
Head Coaches and Assistant Coaches must sign up in the Coach Registration form, even if their player is already registered.

Table Volunteer (open)

Volunteer Building Director (VBD) (open)

Fairfax County requires a VBD to be present whenever we are using a County gym.
The VBD ensures that we are following Fairfax County safety rules during our use.
VBDs are stationed just inside the entrance to the gym. In this way, VBDs can simultaneously fulfill their responsibilities while also observing the game.
VBDs are also needed during off-season activities, such as open gyms, clinics, and player evaluation sessions.

Organization Roles

These roles help the Turnpike community behind the scenes and beyond games and practices. We encourage you to consider taking on these roles, even if you feel you lack experience.

Uniform Manager (open)

Game Day Coordinator (open)

Oversees possession and exchange of game day equipment and supplies during the season.
Coordinates set-up and take-down of all gyms each week by contacting and instructing the appropriate coaches.
Communicates gym incidents to Fairfax County.

The following assistants are also needed - Email us to volunteer or for further info.
- Equipment Assistants monitor and order supplies to make sure they are available at our gyms from week-to-week
- Gym Helpers check equipment bins at each of the assigned gyms weekly to see if any necessary equipment or supplies are missing.
