Travel Program Season Overview
The Turnpike Travel Basketball Program is designed for advanced players in Grades 4–8 who are ready for a more competitive experience. All players must try out to be selected.
The Travel season runs in Fall and Winter, with optional offseason sessions in spring and summer. Once school starts, keep an eye on our calendar—tryouts begin in early October.
Travel Teams compete in the Fairfax County Youth Basketball League (FCYBL).

The FCYBL has separate leagues for boys and girls in each of 5th through 8th grades.

NOTE: 4th grade players may try out for 5th grade teams
Eligibility
To play for the Turnpike travel program, all players must:

Be in 4th through 8th grade

Have a successful tryout
-
Have registered and paid in full
-
Live in 22003, 22030, 22031, 22032, 22042, or 22151
- EXCEPTION: Each travel team may accept up to TWO players from other Fairfax County zip codes

Registration Options
All players must register with Turnpike prior to tryouts.
During registration, players can either:
- Pay during registration
- Pay by invoice only if/when they make their team
Preseason
Open Gyms

Free and optional for all registered players in Grades 4–8

Weeknight sessions throughout September

Great opportunity to get extra court time and meet our coaching staff

Tryouts

Held in the first two weeks of October

Players must be registered (no fee)

Families will be notified promptly after tryouts
Winter Season
Practices

Begin in October

Two weeknight practices per week (75–90 minutes each)

Continue through March
Regular Season

FCYBL season runs mid-November to February

Teams play 1–2 games per week (mostly weekends)

13–14 regular season games total

Some weeknight games possible

Game locations vary (see FCYBL website for facility list)
Playoffs

Top 75% (or 12 teams max) in each division qualify

All playoff games are completed by early March
